"Cat Magick" starts this album off on a refreshing, nearly unclassifiable note: The vocals, raspy and difficult to decipher, are right out of crust and black metal, while the music has a kind of mathy but sinuous intensity, like something from At the Drive-In. Twisty guitar leads intertwine with urgent, traveling bass lines that go in and out of "Buena Vista Acid Club," while "El Pesquisidor" begins with light wood-block strikes before the song rips open with coiling sounds and rhythms. "Fucked Up Got Ambushed Zipped In" toys with almost bubbly psychedelia in the introduction, then launches into sudden dynamic shifts. Ending on a song titled "Space Banana — Rainbow Alliance," this feral kitten of a band is clearly not lacking a sense of humor.
