The crosstown roller-derby rivalry between the Denver Roller Dolls and the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls comes to a head tonight at the 1STBANK Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane, with a triple-header starting at 7 p.m. But first, the leagues' all-star squads -- DRD's Mile High Club and RMRG's 5280 Fight Club -- will skate against each other in a bout that could shake up the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) West Region rankings no matter how it turns out. Next up is DRD's Bruising Altitude vs. RMRG's Contenders, featuring each league's traveling B-squad teams. And don't miss the halftime show, because the rivalry now spans generations: For the first time ever, the leagues' junior squads -- the Glitterdome Gladiators and the Rocky Mountain Rollerpunks -- will be battling it out in twenty-minute rounds.

"The team is really excited to finally get a chance to skate with the Gladiators," says Rollerpunks coach PJ "Dangerous Leigh A'Zon" Shields, who will bring her junior skaters, ages twelve to seventeen, to the bout. "The programs haven't had a chance to align until now, and we're looking forward to a great and fun rivalry." Also watch for DRD's smallest dolls, ages seven to eleven, in an exhibition scrimmage featuring the Glitterdome Gladiators' junior juniors (a team that, in the interest of full disclosure, includes this writer's own kids, henceforth to be known as Sinead O'Conquer and Iron Aidan).
