The action begins tonight with Rise! An Aurora Theater Shooting Benefit at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway. With music by Little Fyodor & Babushka, Mr. Pacman, Barstool Messiah, the Limbs and Glass Homes, the party will also play up its comics connection by including a cosplay costume contest and photo booth, as well as an exhibition of works by Comic Con artists. “Metaphorically, Batman represents self-improvement and the idea of making the world a better place for your fellow person,” says Rise! co-organizer Daniel Crosier. “And by not having super powers, that makes it seem more doable. A lot of people use that icon to promote healing in the community and in terms of personal growth, and that makes it endearing and encouraging.” Check in at 8 p.m. for a night of 21+ fun. Admission is $8 to $10, and photo shots are $20. For more info, go to www.3kingstavern.com.
Tomorrow and Sunday, hit C’s Collectibles, 1250 South Abilene Street in Aurora, for ongoing in-store comic signings with Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), Matt Fraction (Casanova, Uncanny X-men), Moritat (All Star Western) and other industry celebrities, as well as local luminaries; call 303-751-6882 for details. And tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m., head to Embassy Suites, 4444 Havana Street, for an Aurora Rise silent auction featuring artwork by a who’s-who of comic artists who will make the night seem like a mini-Comic Con all over again. Events are free unless otherwise noted; for additional information, visit rememberaurora.com.
