Kids First

The December 31 Noon Year's Eve party at the Children's Museum of Denver gives the traditionally adult-oriented holiday a kid-friendly touch. With a ball drop every hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., little ones get to share in the celebration with glitter and confetti -- and bubble wrap. Yes, the ground surrounding the big mirror ball dropping from twenty feet above will get a fresh covering of bubble wrap each go-round, inviting all to jump, stomp and ring in the New Year.

With noisemaker- and party hat-making stations, train rides, live music and warm beverages, there should be plenty to keep kids entertained inside the museum and out. "They get to create their own experience, and it's all about hands-on fun," says Zoe Ocampo, marketing manager for the museum. A museum tradition for more than a decade, the kid-centric New Year's bash sees close to 3,000 visitors each year.

The Children's Museum's Noon Year's Eve party runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. December 31 at 2121 Children's Museum Drive in Denver. All activities but train rides (and parking) are included in the museum admission price of $7 to $9; for more information, visit or call 303-433-7444
