Create Denver Week is dead. Long live Create Denver -- all year long! Last week, while generating buzz for a new event called Come Play in the Park in Civic Center Park, the folks at the city’s Arts & Venues department announced the demise of Create Denver Week, which managed to squeeze more and more cultural events into a single week of programming with every passing year.

Now that the city cultural agency has a new home inside the refurbished McNichols Building, they said, there’s no need to put a time limit on the public events presented by Create Denver. And to make that point, they’re inviting the public to spend a leisurely afternoon in Civic Center Park, bid farewell to the McNichols exhibit City Beautiful 2.0 at an evening reception, then congregate back outside at dusk for a large-scale video-mapping display by Legwork.

Come Play in the Park is billed as a solstice celebration, but it’s more than that. You can bring your picnic baskets, bikes, yoga gear and Frisbees beginning at 2 p.m. for a day in the sun at the park, Colfax Avenue and Bannock Street; the City Beautiful closing event follows from 5 to 8 p.m. in the McNichols Building, 144 West Colfax Avenue, and the video-mapping display begins around 9. Admission is free, and all are welcome; for more information, visit artsandvenuesdenver.com/create-denver.
