Board Games

Blow off all other obligations and hit the streets for the eleventh annual Go Skateboarding Day. Skateboarding is for everyone, age, gender and skill level notwithstanding, and today’s unofficial holiday will celebrate the sport. Expect huge crowds at the Denver and Arvada skate parks, where local skate companies will be on hand and you can grab some food and swap stories with other skaters. If you want to stay out of the Barney zone, you can cruise the streets and take it back to where it all started.

Grind a curb, huck yourself down some stairs or bomb a hill — it doesn’t matter. Just go skate.

Big companies like Girl & Chocolate Skateboards are sponsoring a best-trick contest at the Civic Center’s popular “10 stair” spot. “If you’re a skateboarder, you skate every day, if possible,” says Girl & Chocolate Skateboards sales representative Chad Lewis. “Go Skateboarding Day is a way to unite us.”

So-Gnar and Wahoo’s Fish Taco are teaming up to organize a video-edit contest to mark the day. Get your crew together and make a three-minute video showing how you spent Go Skateboarding Day; turn it in by 8 p.m. at Wahoo’s Uptown, 225 East 20th Street, and you can see it projected on the big screen for a chance to win cash and prizes. Check out for more information on the contest, and visit your local skate shop for more happenings and meet-ups.
