Suzie Ahlers, boardmember of the Rotary Club of Five Points Cultural District, has wanted to throw an event with food trucks ever since the food-truck scene exploded in the city a few years back. So in some ways, tonight’s Final Friday Food Truck Fiesta is a dream come true for her; the fiesta will feature feature eight different food trucks plus beer, salsa dancing, kids’ activities, the Denver Fashion Truck, a DJ, a bike raffle and more.

But it’s also a way to shower some love and attention on the Five Points neighborhood. “When people come to this event, they’re making a direct impact on programs for people who live in that area,” she says. “The main program we’re working on is Cycles for Student Success at Whittier Elementary and Gilpin Montessori; at each school, each semester, we give away bikes and accessories to kids with the best or most improved attendance.

“Some people come out because RiNo is a fun place and they want to enjoy themselves,” she adds, “and some people come out to support great programs in a traditionally overlooked area.”

Head to the parking lot of Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew, 2830 Larimer Street, from 6 to 10 p.m. to enjoy the festivities; admission is free. Visit bit.ly/foodtruckfiesta for more information.
