Once More, With Feeling

When the remaining members of the legendary Monty Python comedy troupe announced they would be performing together one more time, there was much rejoicing. But local fans were bitter last month when Monty Python Live (Mostly) was performed in London and simulcast to select cities in the United States — not including Denver. Now our time has come, though: The film will screen three times at Sie FilmCenter, starting tonight.

“This was the first time since 1980 that the five remaining members of the Monty Python troupe got together and performed on stage,” notes Ernie Quiroz, programming manager at the Sie FilmCenter. “They did some new skits and sketches, plus some classics that we all know and love. And any Python fan will get a kick out of it.” In typical Python fashion, the troupe members were more than willing to poke fun at topics that would make many other comedians cringe — including their “one down, five to go” joke, referring to the death of Pythoner Graham Chapman in 1989.

Monty Python Live (Mostly will screen at 7 p.m. tonight, then again at 7 p.m. August 9 and 2 p.m. August 10 at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Tickets are $15 to $18; for more information, visit denverfilm.org or call 303-595-3456.
Wed., Aug. 6, 7 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 9, 7 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 10, 2 p.m., 2014
