Aww yeah! It's the weekend! Y'all ready? Better grab your dance shoes. It's gonna be hotter than July in the Mile High City in the next couple of days. The Hive kicks off Libation tonight with Bass Kleph, plus Droog, James What and Fred Everything behind the decks and there's whole lot more on the dance card. The Hive presents Libation with Bass Kleph kicking off the party for the first time. Libation promises to be the best source for weekly electronic music, and this party will set the precedent for future shows. For this kick-off, you can text 69302 for free drinks, and the prices for entry change every hour, starting at $5 from 9pm to 10pm, then $10 before 11pm and $15 after 11 p.m.
NORAD kicks things off with a bang this weekend with James What, whose stripped-down tech-house sounds pound feet into dancefloors around the world on a regular basis. Traveling Shit Show will support. (9 p.m., 21+, $5 before 11 p.m., higher after)
Koan Sound and Two Fresh will be taking the reins at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom tonight at yet another Euphonic Conceptions Re:Creation event. As two rising names on Skrillex's OWSLA label, both Koan Sound and Two Fresh will have no problems fusing hip-hop drum lines with bangin' samples. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts around 9 p.m. with Vinnie Maniscalco, Freddy Todd, and Stratus priming the crowd.
Bassic Fridays, perhaps the go-to Friday night source for your dubstep beats, is bringing Ajapai to Beta to lay the bass on the epic sound system. AK1200 also happens to be on the lineup, which, ahem, is not to be missed. You'll also find drum'n'bass maestro Fury keeping things fast, and Ishe droppin' things slow and low. You can snag tickets for $12 at Beta's website, or pay the extra $10 or so when you arrive day of show.
Whomp Out is happening at the GuildWorks studios over on the north side of town. GuildWorks is a beautiful collective of artists and musicians (also where the heart of the Colorado Burning Man crew builds and designs their effigy), so it's only natural that Whomp Truck will be throwing a dope after hours party at the spot. You'll see Coult45, CacheFlowe, Noah Deep, RumbleJunkie and Ergo keeping things bass-heavy on the tables while you peruse around and mingle or dance with others late nighters. Cover for the show is $10 and all proceeds go straight to GuildWorks.
Fred Everything of lauded labels Lazy Days and Om Records will be headlining at Bar Standard tonight; the house legend will receive opening support by Jacqueline & Swank and Brett Starr. (9 p.m., 21+, $5-$10)
Got Bass brings a dope show to the Beatport Lounge on Saturday night with The Digital Connection, Vinnie Maniscalco, Dirty Little Thieves, and Bathdub. Also, check out some of Vinnie Maniscalco's recent remixes that have been getting some local and national spins. Cover before 11pm is $5 for 21+, $15 for 18+, and it increases just a tad for both after 11pm.
The Infinite Monkey Theorem winery hosts specialty wines and live music for First Friday; Ejay and Jon Nedza are appearing as Hotbox and Gazeebo, and you can expect plenty of classic funk, soul, house and disco. (5 p.m., 21+ but family-friendly for parents with kids)
At Beta, Droog (featuring Andrei Osyka and Brett Griffin) will be pumping its tunes through that impeccable sound system with Mike McCray and the Real Wolfe opening things up (9 p.m., 18+, $10)
Bringing on the live element and keeping the groove mellow and deep is Ableminds at Cervantes. You know what's even better than that? This is a free show for 21+ before 10pm, and with The Biz, Lost Optical, Parvata, and the Peacock Revolution opening up the Ballroom, why would you even risk getting there later? Ableminds blend the live-band aspect with the electro-bass perfectly, creating not only a party atmosphere, but a live show that is never the same.
Head for the hills for the third Full Moon Gathering of 2012 on Saturday; musical guests Essell, Miz Astrid, Charlie Koval, Zane, Trip Coffin, Scott Everett, Tess, Deciprocal and Baggett will provide the tunes, and the Happy Ass Ranch will provide the atmosphere. NORAD hosts Hacksaw on Saturday night, featuring Daegon, Sidney Frost and Nick Payne; it's bound to hurt a little bit -- but in a good way. (9 p.m., 21+, no cover before 11 p.m., $5 after)
Beckley & Krootz take over Vinyl on Saturday night with just about a metric ton of support by way of Dielan & Lewis, DJ Digga, DJ Lee Harris, Jon Sidberry, Barazza Brothers and Phabric8. (9 p.m., 18+, $5-$15)
On Sunday, NORAD hosts a patio party in the afternoon with Shaggz, Eon, Ben Campognola, Beekay and Bones; inside the lounge, you'll hear DJ LoBoT, Chris Mitchell, Josh Manke and Seth Nichols. (4 p.m., 21+, no cover)
Treehouse Collective is taking over the rooftop patio at Bar Standard on Sunday to celebrate Brick Lee's birthday; Travis Press, Isaac H., Khalib and Big White will also be in the house. (5 p.m., 21+)
RECON DNB and Sub.Mission Dubstep bring their Re.Mission Sundays to The Hive for a great weekend wind-down. Residents from both crews will be running tag team on the tables while the grill master cooks up the freshest brats and burgers for the crowd. What better way to relax from a long weekend of dancing than to sit with your friends, grub some grill-food, sip a cocktail, and think of all the great shows you hit the past weekend?
