It's a continuation of our Open Music Sessions, where we will create several videos based on regular live tapings of exceptional bands from Colorado and beyond. The critical thing to know right now, however, is that this Friday, August 1, Kitty Crimes will play a show in the heart of the Sante Fe Arts District that will also feature comedian Kristin Rand. Admission is free and beer and snacks will be available by donation. Doors are at 7 and the taping starts at 8; you can RSVP via Facebook.

Kitty Crimes is the performing moniker of Maria Kohler — a driving force of Denver's music scene who has played in Paper Bird and Harpoontang, among others. Kohler is coming off a prime-time set at the hi-dive at last week's Underground Music Showcase. At it, she showcased the growing versatility of the Kitty Crimes project, which started with hip-hop and now includes R&B, electronic, pop and even some elements of folk. She also has pretty killer "Give it Away" cover.
Tomorrow's Open Music Sessions performance will feature Kohler solo, with backing tracks, occasional guitar and an unbelievably compelling stage presence. Test out her chops by listening to "Grades," the music video for which will be out soon.
