Poor Lala's. If the history of the space at 410 East Seventh Avenue wasn't enough to contend with, the new upscale pizzeria and wine bar also has to battle phonetics.

I can hear the conversation now.

"Hon, tonight should we eat at Lala's?"

"How about Lola?"

"Actually I kind of feel like Lulu's."

"Boulder's too far. Do you mean Lele?"

"I'm confused."

I swung by Lala's last night as the owners (who also run the nearby Govnr's Park Tavern) were conducting a dry run on their new venture for friends and family. Abbott and Costello were nowhere in sight -- but by the look of the crowd, Lala is off to a good start for its official opening later this week.
