Crooked Stave, the one-man sour-beer-making brewery operation that's been in Fort Collins for nearly two years, plans to move to Denver shortly. Owner Chad Yakobson said in his monthly newsletter that he will sign a lease this week on a Denver "Barrel Cellar" and bottling warehouse -- although he hasn't said where. In April, Westword's Lori Midson reported that Crooked Stave's location will be at The Source, a 26,000 square-foot indoor European market that Zeppelin Development plans to unveil next year in an 1880s ironworks building in River North. Will that be the spot? Stay tuned... Wednesday, June 20

Falling Rock gets serious at 5:30 p.m. today when it taps an anniversary edition of the Bull & Bush's Legend of the Liquid Brain -- blended just for the taphouse. It's a mixture of Liquid Brain that has been aging in Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey barrels for six years, since before the whiskey maker was selling bottles; along with batches of seven-year-old Brain aged in Burgundy wine barrels; two-year-old Brain fermented with a different yeast strain and aged in a Buffalo Trace barrel; and a 'Double Barrel' batch aged for a year in a Pappy van Winkle barrel and one year in a Buffalo Trace Barrel. "The original plan," says Falling Rock owner Chris Black, "was to have the years add up to 15, but we got carried away and it came out to 17, oh well."

Saturday, June 23

The Bruery, the acclaimed Orange County, California beer maker, will stage a mini tap takeover at Hops & Pie today at noon. You'll find Loakal Red, a 6.9 percent ABV oak-aged American red ale; Otiose, an 8.2 percent ABV sour brown fermented with guava; Hottenroth, a 3.1 percent ABV Berliner Weisse; Tradewinds, an 8 percent ABV Belgian-style golden ale; and Mischief, an 8.5 percent ABV hoppy Belgian-style golden strong. Flights and single pours will be available.

Falling Rock continues its week-long fifteenth anniversary celebration by tapping some Love from New Belgium at 3 p.m. Taphouse owner Chris Black went to Fort Collins to taste samples from a few Foeders of sour beer and picked this one (Foeder 2).

Avery Brewing will release Oud Floris, #12 in its Barrel-Aged Series, today at 4 p.m. in the Boulder tasting room. The 9.5 percent ABV Flanders-esque dark brown sour is a blend of beer aged in cabernet, chardonnay barrels, bourbon and rum barrels. It was fermented with Saccharomyces, Lactobacillus, Pediococcus and Brettanomyces. It will be sold in twelve-ounce bottles at $8 per bottle (cash only), with a six-bottle limit; there are only 225 cases available. The previous Barrel-Aged releases were Recolte Sauvage and Muscat d' Amor. Oh, and while you're waiting, try out one of Avery's other sours on tap: Bad Apple, a pale Belgian sour aged in oak barrels with Granny Smith apples; Grapes of Wrath, a sour brewed with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and aged in Cab barrels for eighteen months; Ross's Mom, a red sour blended from two different barrels; and Whiskey Sour Reverend, a version of the brewery's Belgian Quad, fermented with souring agents in a fresh whiskey barrel. Falling Rock Taphouse will tap some Dogfish Head beers today at 5:30, including Hellhound On My Ale, Bitches Brew and 120 Minute IPA. And you can't find that just anywhere.

Monday, June 25

At 4 p.m., Denver Beer Co will tap Clown Question, Bro, the beer named in honor of Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper, who used that phrase in a recent press conference. The beer is a Canadian lager; Harper is in town this week as the Nationals take on the Colorado Rockies in a four-game stand.

TRVE Brewing will open its doors today at 4 p.m. The new Denver brewery has a three-barrel system, a black-metal music theme and hellaciously tasty beer. "Come in and help us fulfill our goal of having everyone at the bar windmill headbang in sync," they say.

Denver Beer Co will host a "vertical and horizontal Russian Imperial Stout tasting" tonight. Six bucks gets you a four-ounce taster of three different stout varieties: 2011 The Wilderness aged seven months in stainless steel; 2011 The Wilderness aged seven months in Wild Turkey oak barrels; and 2012 The Wilderness, fresh and un-aged.

Saturday, June 30

Renegade Brewing will celebrate its one-year anniversary today with a party from noon to 10 p.m. and the release of its first canned beer, Ryeteous IPA. There will also be other special beers on tap, including a version of Renegade's Russian Imperial Stout, Hammer and Sickle, aged for nine months; a six-month aged version of its winter seasonal, Radiator; a four-month aged version of its Scottish Wee Heavy, Edinburgh Elixer; and a six-month whiskey barrel-aged version of Elevation triple IPA -- going by the name Elevated Wood. Renegade will have a food truck on hand as well as live music, giveaways, and a photo booth for patrons to capture their good times. The sixteen-ounce Ryeteous cans will be available for sale in the taproom and in a few liquor stores locally, with a broader launch in late July.
