Openings and Closings

Jezebel's opens today in LoHi

Over a year after Wanda James and Scott Durrah closed 8 Rivers in LoDo and returned to Highland, home of Denver's original 8 Rivers and also the couple's own home, they're finally ready to open Jezebel's in the corner space at 3301 Tejon Street. Those who enter that space will find it expanded from its days as Squeaky Bean, which relocated to LoDo this past summer. It's not a big expansion, but it's an important one. Jezebel's got an extra 900 square feet from Rosa Linda's Mexican Cafe, the restaurant next door, so that they could put in a "real restaurant kitchen, complete with hood" that the Bean never had, says James, who's opening the place with her husband and partner/general manager Robert Perry.

Joining Durrah in the kitchen is Leo Harvey, the former chef of Big Game. The food is Southern, "although we're taking it a little deeper," James says. That means black-eyed-pea hummus in addition to fried chicken and shrimp and grits, which were flying off the table at a party last night.

Jezebel's will be opening at 3 p.m. today for drinks and then dinner; lunch should be added in mid-January, James says.
