Nation's Restaurant News, the bible of the food-industry world, has just named Smashburger, a homegrown burger joint that rated our Best Local Chain in the Best of Denver 2008, a 2009 Hot Concept.

"We are both honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award from Nation's Restaurant News," Tom Ryan, Smashburger's founder and managing partner of its parent, Consumer Capital Partners, told the mag. "The fact that we were recognized so early in our development tells us our pledge to become every city's favorite burger place struck a chord with burger lovers. Now we will focus on doing what we do best: winning over customers one burger at a time."

Smashburger is just two years old, and was the youngest -- and fastest-growing -- of the six concepts honored by NRN. The original restaurant, at 1120 South Colorado Boulevard, earned raves from Jason Sheehan; today there are eight Smashburger outlets in the metro area, with one opening in downtown Denver in fall 2009, according to the Smashburger website. There are also Smashburgers in Minnesota, Kansas and Texas, with many more to come.
