Back in November, the Wynkoop Brewing Company hosted a membership rally for the Boulder-based National Homebrewers Association -- a rally that turned into a giant brewing session: each of the 210 AHA members in attendance pitched a cupful of hops into a boiling brew kettle, making a beer that will be known as Collective Hoppiness.
It's a fitting title, says Wynkoop spokesman Marty Jones, since the beer was continuously and collectively brewed as the AHA members dumped their hops in over a ninety minute period - beginning with Wynkoop brewer Brad Landman.
Collective Hoppiness will be tapped tomorrow, December 10, at 11 a.m. Here are the deets on the beer, according to the Wynkoop:
The draft-only beer is a delicious, cola-colored imperial ale that's hoppy from start to finish, its unctuous hops balanced by deep malt flavors and a hint of cocoa.
It was built with hefty amounts of premium two-row malt, a dose of chocolate malt, small amounts of rye and aromatic malts, flaked oats, and five kinds of hops (Summit, Cascade, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo and Columbus) added throughout the brewing process.
Collective Hoppiness was fermented with a hard-working English ale yeast and finished at 8.5% ABV and 90+ IBUs.
AHA members who show their membership card get a free AHA-logo pint glass if they buy the beer.
