On August 17, the Kosslers plan to unleash the Denver Burger Battle, a beef-to-beef combat that'll pit ten Denver cow-friendly palaces against one another in a showdown that will ultimately end with the crowning of Denver's Best Burger. "We have an exploding burger scene here in Denver, but we rarely get national attention for it, so we want to celebrate the most widely-regarded burgers in town and declare which one is best," says Jeremy, who explains that the couple modeled the event after Food & Wine magazine's popular Miami Burger Bash.
Participating restaurants in Denver's tug-of-beef include Cherry Cricket, Encore, Colt & Gray (our 2010 Best of Denver Best Burger winner), Park Burger, Steuben's, Old School Burgers, HBurger, Deluxe Burger, Argyll and Walk-in Burgers. Burger-centric attendees will vote for their favorite beef and bun combination, while chefs Alex Seidel (Fruition), Troy Guard (TAG) and James Rugile (Venue) get to wear expert judge's caps. "Our restaurant participants told us that it would mean a lot to be judged by their chef-peers, and there isn't a much better group than this," says Jeremy.
Tickets to the event, which will be held at Wynkoop Walk, the LoDo plaza adjacent to Fado's and Sing Sing, are $45 each, although if you're a Denver Burger Battle Facebook friend or fan, you can get $10 off the ticket price for a limited time.
All proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, a local youth mentoring organization. "Getting ten of the best burger restaurants in the city on board is no easy feet, and it's taken a hell of a lot to put this together, but the event and charity are absolutely worth it," promises Jeremy.
