Simons said that there had been a major malfunction with their production process -- the toffee had been too smooth, so smooth the chocolate coating couldn't adhere-- but that Enstrom's had no choice but to move forward with faulty product. The problem was a massive blow during the holiday rush, their busiest time of the year.
Contrary to the comment posted after my blog, Simons said Enstrom's
had been doing its best to either replace the faulty product or
reimburse people who'd bought it. His prompt, sincere response make me
think that Enstrom's will weather this storm.
The company has also returned to their old recipe, which Joel Warner recently reported resulted in possibly the 'Best Candy in the World'.
