Eat green at more than a half-dozen Denver restaurants throughout the month of April

If you care about where your food comes from, then April is a great month to eat out. More than a dozen food temples are participating in the Green Route Restaurant Tour, a month-long environmentally turbocharged map crawl ballyhooing restaurants (and other businesses and organizations) that are practicing sustainability.

The tour is an initiative of Denver's Green Route, which was created by Green Spaces Colorado in conjunction with the global Green Map System, a platform that gives communities the ability to design green maps for their cities. "We really want to bring attention to the sustainable restaurant scene here in Denver by bringing new and familiar foodies to restaurants focused on lowering their environmental impact and sourcing local ingredients," explains Erin Davey, director of Green Spaces Colorado.

The eight April restaurant tours are free, and include food and drink specials and chef meet and greets, but you need to download a tour pass from in order to participate.

Here's the tour schedule and restaurant specials:

Monday, April 5; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m: 1515 Restaurant Complimentary appetizers and drink specials

Wednesday, April 7; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: WaterCourse Foods Complimentary appetizers and drink specials

Monday, April 12; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: SAME Café Lunch fundraiser for So All May Eat Cafe; accepting monetary and non-monetary donations such as eco-products.

Monday, April 19; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m: City O' City Upslope Brewing Company beer specials, happy hour and half-off salads

Tuesday, April 20; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Snooze (Larimer Street location only) $6 pancake and mimosa special

Wednesday, April 21; 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Z Cuisine

Monday, April 26; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Duo Complimentary appetizers and $2 local brews, $3 mixed wells, $5 house wines

Wednesday, April 28; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Root Down Happy hour till 7:30 p.m.; complimentary appetizers
