Make Irish Snug your first stop for Colfax Marathon fun

Does anyone ever want to wake up early on a Sunday? May 20 could be the day to try. The Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon will hit the street for the seventh year in a row this Sunday, and even if you're not joining the hordes of runners, there's plenty of fun on the sidelines. In fact, this unique urban marathon is already being celebrated with a two-day expo at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium that's now under way.

Runners who are joining in the 26-mile race are urged to arrive at City Park at 5 a.m. on Sunday (assuming they picked up the appropriate packet at the expo); the marathon will start promptly at 6 a.m.To tie up any loose ends on race logistics, view the video done by the race director Creigh Kelley.

Want to watch the race?

On this day only, the Irish Snug will open its doors at 6 a.m on May 20 -- although under state liquor laws, it can't serve alcohol before 7 a.m., it will be cooking up breakfast before then. Starting at 7 a.m., you can buy a bottomless mimosa for $9 (if you're also buying an entree, and breakfast burritos qualify.)The Snug's patio is a comfortable place to relax on any sunny Sunday morning, and it should be particularly entertaining this weekend.

From there, depending on your tastes, you can stumble to the Atomic Cowboy, where you can get your biscuit fix at the Denver Biscuit Company starting at 8 a.m; Kingas Lounge, which opens at 10 a.m.; or Streets of London, where thrashy punk music will start playing at 11 a.m. Other Colfax institutions -- including Cheeky Monk, Goosetown Tavern and Mezcal -- will be opening at their normal times with some opportune brunch specials.

Then lace up your shoes for the official marathon after-party at the start/finish with the Jim N Nick's BBQ and Michelob Ultra beer.

Visit the marathon website for a full photo tour of all the entertainment possibilities. See you Sunday!
