It's Cora Vette's birthday -- and Coco Lectric is the present

How does a burlesque emcee extraordinaire celebrate her birthday? If you're Cora Vette -- aka Reyna Von Vett -- then you bring in Coco Lectric, the star of the Texas burlesque scene (and the 2010 Queen of Burlesque), a dusky beauty whose red-feather-boa routine turned the heads of the judges at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival. "This is going to be the fan-danciest, most gorgeous show we've done," notes Vette.

Coco Lectric will stick around town to teach a class on Friday, too. For those who need a little more incentive, there's a larger image of the divine Coco below -- wearing much less than that gorgeous gold gown.

At tonight's Bar Standard show, "Coco's going to debut a brand-new thing of hers, where she does a fan dance en pointe -- in ballet shoes. This will be the only time she performs it in Colorado," says Vette. "And then she's going to do her red boa number that she won the Queen of Burlesque competition with. It's a thing that she's really well-known for, but nobody's seen enough of it." Coco Lectric will perform a third classic burlesque piece, too; also on stage tonight will be Denver burlesque darling Vivienne VaVoom performing her pink elephant number, Whoopsie Daisy as a stripping tiger, and other classic/comic acts.

"Everybody's bringing their most jazzy, swanky bump-and-grind, or their most vintage comedic stuff," explains Vette. And since it's her birthday, she gets to pick.

Head to Bar Standard tonight for the festivities; doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets are $10. (Purchase yours by visiting www.brownpapertickets.com/event/202338). And aspiring burlesque stars are invited to check out Coco Lectric's master class from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, where she'll teach boa work (including a review of basic walks and poses), plus the origins of the bump-and-grind, from belly dancing to the hula.

That means you'll learn how you, too, can have sex appeal like this:

... or, maybe just how to look super sultry with a feather boa.
