Curious Theatre Company cracked open a whole new fascination for troubled color-field artist Mark Rothko with its production of the engaging play Red, in which the painter and his assistant discuss the meaning of life and art while painting a fresh canvas onstage. And just as the play offers a peek into the artist's world, helping its audiences see into the inner life of his luminescent works, the documentary film Rothko's Rooms by David Thompson also builds a visceral, visual bridge that crosses into the unique Rothko eye-view.

Curious and the Denver Film Society collaborated to present Breaking the Fourth Wall: Rothko's Rooms, which combines a screening of the doc with a talkback discussion led by Red director Christy Montour-Larson and cast member Ben Bonenfant.

The evening begins at 7 p.m. at the Denver FilmCenter; admission ranges from $7 to $9.25, with discounts for members of both organizations. For details and reservations visit the Denver FilmCenter online.
