Arts Meets Beast returns to Museum of Contemporary Art Denver

The inaugural Art Meets Beast at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver was a surprise hit in 2010, featuring local chefs and arts enthusiasts in a mashup of mammoth proportions.

And now the beast is coming back, with a two-day exploration of art that will culminate in a bison feast prepared by six of Denver's top chefs. "Art Meets Beast is not just an opportunity for people to learn more about local production of food, it's also a chance to have fun at the museum and have great meals," says Sarah Baie, MCA director of programming. "We want to invite audiences to consider the connections firsthand between food and culture by looking more closely at the food we eat."

The event starts on Friday, November 9 with "Bison Carving and Food Pornography," a bison-butchering workshop led by Pete Marczyk of Marczyk Fine Foods. the meat that results will be distributed to chefs Jamey Fader of Lola, Keegan Gerhard of D Bar, Troy Guard of TAG, Max MacKissock of Squeaky Bean, Jorel Pierce of Euclid Hall and Sean Yontz of El Diablo and Sketch, who will use it to create a six-course bison dinner, complete with music for stampede, on Sunday, November 11.

BISON CARVING AND FOOD PORNOGRAPHY

Friday, November 9 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Bison butchering workshop with Pete Marczyk; vegetarian pornographic food film with live score.

At MCA Denver. $10 / $5 members 4H LIVESTOCK SHOWCASE

Saturday, November 10 10 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Farm animal showcase presented by The Urban Farm. With music and donuts. At MCA Denver. Rain or shine. FREE with museum admission.

KITCHEN-FARM-CANNERY-BREWERY TOUR

Saturday, November 10 Noon - 3:30 p.m.

A bus tour of urban food starting at The Kitchen Denver and traveling to Happy Farms, MM Local, and the Denver Beer Company. Lunch and drinks included. $55 / $50 members. Reservations required.

BISON FEAST AND MUSIC FOR STAMPEDE Saturday, November 10 Drinks 7 p.m., dinner 8 p.m.

Six-course bison dinner with musical stampede; presented by Jamey Fader of Lola, Keegan Gerhard of D Bar, Troy Guard of TAG, Max MacKissock of The Squeaky Bean, Jorel Pierce of Euclid Hall, and Sean Yontz of El Diablo and Sketch.
