You know you’re in deep when the “green” lifestyle goes past reusable bags and recycling. The new trend for eco-friendly pet-owners is the Doggie Dooley, a product for making your dog’s visits to Mother Nature’s bathroom as environmentally sound as possible. The Doggie Dooley is an in-ground septic tank that liquefies pet waste with a combination of water and digestive enzymes and allows the soil to absorb the mixture.
Owner of Sixth Avenue Pet Source, Rebecca Gershten, was inspired by the idea of saving plastic bags and poop from landfills. “The impetus for this was my big dog, Rocky. I knew there had to be a better way than collecting five bags of poop,” says Gershten. Gershten is sponsoring an event Saturday, June 28, to teach people about the next generation of green. The event includes demonstrations on how to make your own Doggie Dooley, drawings for at-home Doggie Dooley systems, a sidewalk sale, and dog treat tasting from Nederland-based pet store Peak Waggers.
The event takes place at Sixth Avenue Pet Source, 810 E. Sixth Ave, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Demonstrations take place at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 303-733-6410 or visit www.sixthavepetsource.com.
