Nakie Pratt busted for fatally stabbing aunt in the neck (10)

Saturday began with the Denver Police finding a body in an alley near South Quieto Way. It ended with members of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office dealing with a gruesome scene involving Mary Pratt, who was fatally stabbed in the neck.

ACSO reps say the person behind the blade was Nakie Pratt, Mary's niece.

Deputies arrived at the crime scene, 8871 East Florida Avenue #D113, at three minutes shy of midnight on Sautrday, armed with a report about a stabbing and a suspect who'd fled on foot.

Mary Pratt, age 53, was still alive at that point, but she died shortly after being transported to Aurora South Hospital.

What happened? A witness said that Nakie, who's 37, had been staying with another aunt, but she'd become angry and argumentative -- behavior allegedly fueled by alcohol consumption. Mary was then called and asked to try calming Nakie, only to lose her life in the attempt after the verbal altercation turned into a physical one.

While Nakie was said to have split, she didn't get far. A deputy located her outside the apartment complex, covered in blood. She's said to have admitted to her role in the disturbance and was promptly taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder. She's being held without bond.
