Brendan Cook: He came out through the bedroom window -- and allegedly assaulted a deputy

Brendan Cook stands accused of a clumsy escape attempt -- and his girlfriend allegedly helped him not get away.

Earlier this month, according to the Denver District Attorney's Office, Denver Sheriff's Department deputies showed up at Cook's door with an outstanding warrant for a drug charge. What to do? Shimmy out the bedroom window, of course. Problem with this plan? A deputy quickly zeroed in on him. So Cook reportedly slugged the officer, which didn't help him evade capture, but did add a more serious charge to his roster. Congrats.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has formally charged a man today who accused of assaulting a Denver Sheriff Deputy last week. The man's girlfriend has also been charged in connection with the crime.

Brendan Cook (dob: 11-11-84) is charged with second degree assault on a peace officer (F4).

Natalie DaFermo (dob: 12-11-87) is charged with accessory to the crime (F5).

On February 18, 2010, members of the Denver Sheriff's Department went to the 1200 block of S. Knox Court in an attempt to arrest Cook for an outstanding warrant for felony possession of a controlled substance. The charge alleges that Cook fled out a bedroom window to his car in front of the house and struck one of the deputies while fleeing. The charge against DaFermo alleges that she tried helping him avoid arrest.

Cook is currently in custody at the Denver County Jail; his bond is set at $250,000. DaFermo is also in the custody of the Denver County Jail; her bond is set at $20,000. They are scheduled to appear in Denver District Courtroom 472W for advisement on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 1:30.
