Since recreational marijuana was legalized in Colorado, much has been made of children accidentally ingesting edible marijuana -- but what about when people intentionally feed it to kids? Last week Davirak Ky pleaded guilty to distributing a controlled substance and child abuse for feeding two minors cannabis-infused cookies. In exchange, Ky received three years of probation, must undergo drug and alcohol treatment, and has to take a class on the effects of drugs on children -- but he will avoid prison time if he stays out of trouble.

As we reported last fall, Ky was arrested on November 3, 2013 after police responded to a "report of disturbance." The victims' mother told police that Ky, now 41, had brought over cookie dough to make treats for her children, who were thirteen and fifteen at the time.

The boys' mother said her sons were acting "giggly and agitated" after eating the cookies, and the boys were later taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where they both tested positive for marijuana and displayed "high blood pressure and an irregular heart rate, which is not normally caused by marijuana alone." According to the Denver District Attorney's Office, the victims were unaware they were eating THC-infused cookies.
