Jared Jimenez (No. 8): Toddler died after father allegedly bounced on his chest

We recently told you about the arrest of Jared Jimenez on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death. Now the Denver District Attorney's Office has formally charged Jimenez with first degree murder and several other counts, and the statement of probable cause in the case makes it clear why. In the document, Jimenez says his fourteen-month-old son died after he bounced on the boy's chest.

On June 25, 2010 at approximately 1:03 p.m., the Denver Police Dispatch Center received a call from the Emergency Room Manager at Lutheran Hospital, Mary Hiller. Hiller reported that they had a 14 month old child that may die and the child was brought in by the dad who stated the child fell out of his crib. Denver Police Officers Daniel Walton #05145, car 116 and Greg Lee #06135, car 114, were dispatched to Lutheran Hospital and were informed that the child, identified as Jared Jimenez Jr. dob; 04/02/2009, had died. Upon his arrival, Officer Watson was informed that the father, later identified as Jared Jimenez dob; 05/22/1984, had made comments that he was wrestling with his son, that his son fell out of the crib, he sat on his son and asked if he could have done this to his son.

Jared Jimenez was transported to the Denver Police Headquarters and interviewed by your affiant. Mr. Jimenez admitted sitting on his son and demonstrated how he used his entire body weight to bounce on his son's chest. He also admitted to possessing cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana inside his home at [redacted] W. 36th Avenue.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has formally charged a man in connection with the death of his 14-month-old son, Jared Jimenez, Jr. last Friday.

Jared Jimenez, Sr. (DOB: 05-22-84) is charged with first-degree murder (F1), child abuse resulting in death (F2), child abuse (F3), and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (F4).

On June 25, 2010, at approximately 1:00 p.m. the Denver Police Department responded to a call from Lutheran Hospital in regard to an infant who had been brought to the hospital with suspicious injuries and who later died. The Office of the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The charges allege that Jimenez, Sr. caused the fatal injuries while Jimenez, Jr. was in his care and was in possession of illegal drugs.

Jimenez remains in custody in the Denver Detention Center where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Courtroom 2100 at 10:30 a.m., July 6, 2010, to be formally advised of the charges.
