Early Sunday morning, the Aurora Police Department offered information about an officer-involved shooting. Details remain fuzzy, although the Associated Press reports that the cops who fired will be put on paid administrative leave while investigators look into the matter.

DATE: May 10, 2009NATURE: Man Shoots at Officers Which Leads to Officer Involved Shooting
Aurora, Colorado -- On May 9, 2009, shortly before 9:30 pm, two Aurora Police Officers responded to a report of a suspicious occurrence in the 9300 block of E. 19th Avenue.
The resident who made the 911 call reported that he had found someone inside his van which was parked near his home.
The two officers assigned to investigate this incident located a man walking eastbound on E. 19th Avenue near Clinton Street. The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was similar in description to the suspect who was connected to the suspicious occurrence.
As the officers attempted to contact him, he began shooting at the officers. An officer returned fire, shooting the suspect, striking him multiple times. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured. The suspect's condition is not known at this time. He has not been identified by Police.
Although it was initially believed by Police that the suspect shot himself, further investigation has raised questions as to this fact. At this time detectives are attempting to determine whether the suspect did in fact shoot himself.
Additional officers responded to the scene to provide assistance and secure the area. Major Crimes Unit/Homicide detectives -- assisted by the Crime Scene Investigation Unit - responded to lead the investigation.
This evening, officers and detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses and officers, collecting evidence, and canvassing the neighborhood for possible additional witnesses.
The results of this investigation will be presented to the Adams County District Attorney's Office.
