“We do it like old Creature Features and MonsterVision, so we just show the movie and do sketches in between as ‘commercial breaks,’” explains co-host Roger Norquist. “A lot of people were confused by the concept, just because it’s not a thing that’s on TV right now. We’re trying to bring that back as much as possible.”
The “commercial breaks” will be filled with everything from PowerPoint presentations to local comics critiquing the film, but don’t expect any Mystery Science Theater 3000 hijinks as the movie plays. “It’s an absurd movie,” Norquist says. “The movies have their own punchlines. We don’t have to add anything.”
The movie starts tonight at 8 p.m. at Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 1260 22nd Street. Admission is free, but donations are being accepted for the Buntport Theater's youth programs. For more information, visit tiny.cc/wrgwangi.
