Just Like the Ones You Used to Know

Tonight is the fifth annual 1940s White Christmas Ball, and as befits an event that was put together to commemorate and celebrate the past, organizer Khyentse James is getting even more nostalgic than usual.

“We’ve always thought of doing something completely different from the ‘White Christmas’ theme,” she says, “but people love the theme so much that we always try to keep it involved.” However, there’s also a Rat Pack tribute this year. “People can travel back in time and see what a Rat Pack show looked like in Vegas,” says James. “The man who plays Sammy Davis Jr. in the Rat Pack revue in Vegas and travels the world is coming to Denver for the first time to play Sammy.”

There will also be a big tribute to Glenn Miller, including a re-creation of his big band and scenes from The Glenn Miller Story. But regular attendees can still find all the fun they’re using to experiencing. “Everyone loves the salon and coming to dance with the big bands,” James notes. “And with the five-year anniversary -- if you’re ever going to go to this event, this is definitely the year to go.”

The ball starts at 5 p.m. at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard, and runs until 1 a.m.; tickets, $40 in advance or $46 at the door (if there are any) can be purchased at 1940sball.org.
