For this year’s Night Fair Before Christmas, fun expert Kalina Ross decided she would go so big that she would need two parties: a shindig for the little ones and another celebration for the grownups. During the day, this part market, part party will be a wonderland for kids, with a hot chocolate bar, a strawberry shortcake tower, a magician and a glitter tattooist. And at the center of the family-friendly fun will be live music from many artists, including Black Lash and the Sassprilla String Band. Emcee and poet Bianca Mikahn will wander through the crowd spreading cheer as the human embodiment of the Christmas spirit.

“I love all the markets, but I always see that there never really is a place for the children to be,” says Ross, who started the Night Fair with friend and co-organizer Phaedra High three years ago. “I really like to include kids so they don’t get lost in the shuffle.”

But once the children have had their fun, the party will turn into an adults-only throwdown with music from Felix Fast4Ward, Venus Cruz and more. Grownup guests will get to enjoy a free dab bar, fondue and a s’mores bar while perusing crafts and goods from local merchants.

The Night Fair Before Christmas is at the Watering Bowl, 5411 Leetsdale Drive. The family portion of the celebration runs from 1 to 7 p.m., and tickets are just $5. Doors open for the evening festivities at 9 p.m., and the action continues until 3 a.m. Tickets are $10. Sat., Dec. 20, 1-7 & 9 p.m.-3 a.m., 2014
