“There’s so much of me out there that one could wonder, ‘What am I going to get seeing him in person?’” says astrophysicist and all-around science guy Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. “What I do know is that when I’m on stage, it’s almost like we’re one on one.”

So if you watched and enjoyed the reboot of Cosmos, or if you listen to Tyson talk science with comedians on his podcast, then you’ll want to put An Evening With Neil deGrasse Tyson on your calendar.

“When I was teaching, I saw people’s faces all the time and could interact with them. A public lecture is a proxy for that, and when I’m there live, I feel it’s a personal thing. It’s almost a private exchange, like a communion between us — you, the person who’s attending, and me, the person in front of the room,” he says. “I’m there, and I’m talking about the universe, of course, from a cosmic perspective, and why science matters, but there’s also my life experience that I fold in. It’s a night out; it’s a celebration of science, of exploration and discovery.”

Catch Tyson at the Buell Theatre, in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, tonight at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 8 p.m.; tickets start at $40 and can be purchased at neildegrassetysonlive.com.
Thu., Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Jan. 30, 7:30 p.m., 2015
