Literary Calendar: Three Book Events in Denver for the Week of May 11-17

Dig into another installment of a tried-and-true mystery series with a Western theme, take off into a homegrown fantasy/sci-fi realm or get lost in the first novel from a multi-talented author. There's a lot to explore on the local literary scene this week.

Craig Johnson, Dry Bones
Tattered Cover Colfax Avenue
7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13
Free

Craig Johnson, whose rugged hero — Walt Longmire, sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming — gained new fans by way of the A&E series Longmire (soon to return for a fourth season on Netflix), pens these delicious yarns almost faster than we can keep up with them. He’ll introduce Dry Bones, in which Longmire encounters dinosaur bones and a dead body found on the same property, at the TC Colfax.

Sue Duff, Masks and Mirrors: Book Two: The Weir Chronicles
Tattered Cover Aspen Grove
7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13
Free

Colorado author Sue Duff’s illusionist hero Ian Black meets up with a rebel force on a mission that takes him away from all that he loves in the second installment of the Weir series. Can’t decide between fantasy, sci-fi and romance genres? Get all three in one book. Bonus: Duff will be giving away a pair of tickets to Denver Comic Con at the reading.

Maura Weiler, Contrition
Tattered Cover Colfax Avenue
7 p.m. Friday, May 15
Free

Former Connecticut Post columnist Maura Weiler, also known for her trash art and work on developing screenplays for such films as Speed and Twister, now tries her hand at fiction with Contrition, a book about familial discoveries, twin sisters separated at birth, art and the cloistered world of extreme Catholicism.
