Things to Do

Three Things to Do for Free in Denver This Week, September 14-17

Are we having fun yet? With all the great free entertainment in town, there's no excuse for not enjoying yourself. This week you can keep your spirits high with free movies, good works and great comedy. Check the Westword calendar for more events, and leave us a comment if you know of any other entertainment bargains.

Goon at Alamo Drafthouse (10 p.m. Tuesday, free)
IFC will be premiering a hockey-centric comedy show in a couple weeks, and in anticipation, it's showing Goon at the Alamo tonight. The adult version of The Mighty Ducks goes everywhere from hilarious to heart-wrenching, and is well worth your time. Particularly since this showing is free, and you also get a special sneak peak of the new show Benders. Go for the goal tonight.

Urban Gardening at Ekar Farms (5:30 p.m. Wednesday, free)
Get your hands dirty and have fun while also working for the greater good tonight at Ekar Farms. The Green Team will be helping harvest at the farm that supplies local food banks with fresh produce; if you join the crew, you'll get food, beverages and a T-shirt. RSVP here with your shirt size.

Talkin Shop with Greg Baumhauer at Mutiny Information Cafe (7 p.m. Thursday, free)
Greg Baumhauer was the host of the Squire Lounge's open mic night — known as one of the "meanest mics in America" — for seven years. During that time, Baumhauer became sort of a father figure to up-and-coming comics around town. He's a real comics' comic, so comedy nerds and Denver history buffs alike are going to have a good time hearing his stories of battling crackheads while on stage. And if you can't make it to the free show, you can always download a podcast version
