Say goodbye to October at galleries around town with shows that celebrate film, double as benefits, dress up for Halloween or prep viewers for a blockbuster coming to the Denver art Museum in November. Where will you end up?
Black Light Art Show
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1
6 to 10 p.m. Friday, October 30
$5 donation at the door

The Black Light Art Show will take over the hip Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1 on Santa Fe Drive for a witching hour or four with DayGlo-colored works to benefit the Art of War Project, an art-therapy program for veterans. That calls for a party in the darkness, and that’s what you’ll get, with movies, live music and magic, live body painting and a costume contest. Get your glow on to kick off Halloween weekend.
Andrew Wyeth: A Survey
Goodwin Fine Art
October 30 through November 20

With Wyeth fever about to hit the Denver Art Museum in November, New York’s Gerald Peters Gallery will take over Goodwin Fine Art nearby in the Golden Triangle with temperas, watercolors and drawings by the master of twentieth-century American realism, Andrew Wyeth, offering a companion view. Included in the exhibit are numerous works from Wyeth’s fifteen-year Helga series.
Screenplay: A Tribute to the Art of Film
Helikon Gallery
October 30 through December 12
Opening reception: 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, October 30

Helikon fetes the Denver Film Society with a benefit show of movie-themed, foot-square works by thirty local artists. Each artist contributed three panels celebrating cinema, either in a series or as stand-alone works, and every piece will be priced at $500 or less. Also opening at Helikon: Muses of Mount Helikon III, an annual national invitational show of illustrative works that is a signature for the thriving RiNo studio/gallery space.
