Cottrell is speaking from a venue in Mesa, Arizona, two nights before the Denver date. The elation of being on the road combined with the frazzled confusion of metal shows and travel is evident from our short exchange. "Danava are not here yet tonight," she confides. "Everyone is running really late today. L.A. last night was incredible – really fun, maybe too fun."
"The tour has been going really well so far," Cottrell reports. "Lots of the shows are sold out, which is great to see. Sometimes I wish the drives between venues were a little bit shorter, but all in all I think this has been our best tour so far."
Windhand is touring in support of its latest record, Grief's Infernal Flower, which came out in July. "This is our first run actually playing Grief's Infernal Flower songs live, so we're focusing on that," she says. "We'll probably record something in the fall of next year, and we have months and months of touring on this record ahead of us, so we're just focusing on touring right now, before we make any plans to write a new record. I'm still a little insecure about playing the new songs, since this is our first time out with them, but It's been going smoothly. I think people are a little more divided with this record, but I feel like since we have been playing the songs out so much, I'm getting more and more comfortable with them."
The musicians have enjoyed touring the West, and they're looking forward to returning to Denver. "So far, we have gotten a lot of weed shit on this tour," Cottrell says, laughing. "Weed candy, weed chocolate, weed taffy, sparkly hard candy with weed — it's all been really great. And last time we were in Denver, we went to Trve Brewing, and that place was awesome, and they were really nice guys and hooked us up. It was fun – we got there late last time, too, so we didn’t get to see too much of the town — but it was a great show experience."
