Residents and commuters in south Denver now have their own hip taqueria to call home: Troy Guard's second outpost of Los Chingones opens at 4:30 p.m. today at the Belleview Station development on the northern edge of the Denver Tech Center. So head south early or hop off the light rail at the Belleview stop and check out the edgy, modern decor and the same modern Mexican menu that popularized the RiNo original — plus a few surprises.
Favorites include the house guacamole with rattlesnake chorizo and lamb neck, beef cheek or pork shoulder tacos, but you'll also find fresh oysters, whole shrimp and ceviches — like a shrimp number enhanced with tomato, tamarind and chipotle. Los Chingones' tequila-spiked cocktails are also part of the package.
This makes Guard's eighth eatery, along with his flagship TAG, two Bubu locations (in Larimer Square and Lowry), TAG Burger Bar, Sugarmill and Guard and Grace. He's also got five concepts planned for 2016, with two eateries slated for Stapleton's Eastbridge Town Center, another TAG Burger Bar in West Highland and something new in the Industry building in River North.
The new Los Chingones will be open from 4:30 to 10 p.m. nightly (closing an hour early on Sundays) and will add lunch hours beginning December 1. For more photos, see our First Look from October 30.
