Winter of Reading at Denver Central Library (10 a.m. Monday-Thursday, free)
If you grew up in Denver, you no doubt remember the cool summer reading club at the Denver Public Library, which got you a free ticket to Elitch's. Starting today, you can relive the past — or just get a good start on future reading endeavors — by joining in the DPL's city-wide reading contest. Stop by any branch library and get the rules; read enough and you can win a sweet mug. And from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, Jagged Mountain Brewery will host the Winter of Reading Trivia Party, with Library Bearded Tallman Joe Mills asking questions that your team can answer for big prizes. So nerd up!
#TorchysDoesDenver: Broadway Opening Party at Torchy's Tacos (6 p.m. Monday, free)
Tuesday may be the official day for tacos in this town, but you can grab some for free on Monday, when Torchy's, a Texas-based chain, holds the Opening Party for its first Denver location, at 1085 Broadway, from 6 to 9 p.m., with free tacos, chips and dips, drinks and other prizes, as well as live entertainment.Take a bite out of something new on Broadway, and then return to Torchy's when it opens officially for business at 7 a.m. February 2.
Talkin' Shop with Zach Rienert at Mutiny Information Cafe (7 p.m. Thursday, free)
The one-liner is a simple joke, but still a complex form of comedy. And there's no one in town better at putting together a string of one-liners than Zach Rienert, who'll be talkin' shop with host Anthony Crawford tonight. Rienert's ex-girlfriend/cemetery joke is pure gold; find out how he crafted that line and others. As one-liner king Steven Wright said, "What a nice night for an evening." So don't miss this one.
