Victor Green's Murder-Try Charges Dropped After He Nearly Kills Himself

Prosecutors have dropped attempted-murder charges against Victor Green for a very unusual reason.

Green, a Grand Junction resident, attempted to kill himself while in custody — and very nearly succeeded.

The motivation behind this move is tied at least in part to one of Green's victims: his father.

According to KJCT, the incident took place at around 11 a.m. January 14 on the 400 block of Melody Lane in Grand Junction.


Police were called by Victor's father, Troy.

Upon their arrival, an affidavit obtained by the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel maintains, officers found Victor under Troy's physical control despite injuries sustained by the older man.

Specifically, Troy had a large wound on one hand and a slice to his right side.

The night before, Troy told investigators that Victor had threatened to kill him for not ponying up some money.

A defense attorney maintains that Victor was homeless and living in his van at the time.


Then, that morning, an obscenity-filled driveway argument led to a physical attack.

Victor allegedly brandished a knife and injured Troy twice before the latter was able to wrest the weapon away and tackle his son to the ground.

The Mesa County District Attorney's office subsequently accused Victor of attempted murder — and it wasn't the only charge pending against him.

He reportedly was also scheduled for a trial in August on assault, child abuse and harassment beefs in what's described as an unrelated incident.


But everything changed on January 23, when Victor tried to hang himself in his cell at Mesa County Sheriff's jail.

He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

More than two weeks later, he'd been upgraded to stable when prosecutors filed a motion asking for the charges against him to be tossed.

The document reads in part: “Given the defendant’s current medical condition, the named victims had no objection to the cases being dismissed."

Charges can be refiled at a later time. But for now, Victor is off the hook from a legal standpoint — although still not out of the woods from a medical one.
