See John Hogg and 8 More Busted for Soliciting Child Prostitutes, Enticement

As we've noted, numerous police departments in Colorado and beyond continue to publicize photos of Johns busted for soliciting prostitutes under the theory that doing so will help cut down on the crime, even though such shaming has become increasingly controversial and unpopular with many members of the public.

With that in mind, the Aurora Police Department — and, to a lesser degree, the Colorado Springs Police Department, an agency that's specialized in shaming for years — are trying a new tack.

Rather than simply sharing mug shots of men who allegedly hired adult prostitutes, they're focusing on the ones accused of soliciting those who are still legally children, presumably under the theory that folks will be less likely to object if the objects of their desire are underage.

The APD has shared details about seven such busts, while the CSPD led a recent mug-shot roundup of six men, with three charged with soliciting a child prostitute or enticement. Problem is, one of the trio was later found guilty of patronizing a prostitute, not patronizing a child prostitute — a mistake that prompted the Colorado Springs department to issue a public apology.

Below, see the Aurora seven, followed by the two from Colorado Springs convicted of crimes against children; we're leaving out photos of three men whose prostitution convictions involved adults. Also included: information about the crimes from the two departments.

Aurora Police Department release:

The seven men were arrested for:

• 18-7-402 Soliciting for Child Prostitution (Class 3 Felony)
• 18-7-406 Criminal Attempt to commit Patronizing a Prostituted Child (Class 4 felony)

If convicted they could face 4 to 12 years imprisonment, and will be required to register as a sex offender.

All arrestees were transported to the Arapahoe County Jail, and their cases have been filed with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office. Please direct any further media inquiries related to these cases to their office.

The ICAC unit was created in January 2016. The unit focuses on identifying, investigating and prosecuting suspects who are actively using the internet to victimize children.

The filing of criminal charges is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

These men have since been convicted of Soliciting a Child for Prostitution or Enticement of a Child, a felony level crime.
