"Twice in a week," marijuana activist Wayward Bill wrote late last night on his Facebook page. "Siege situation at mi casa."

Specifically, officers with the Denver Police Department got into a gun battle with a man who allegedly opened fire on them near the intersection of 20th and Arapahoe at around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 12.

The suspect was injured but is expected to survive.

While it was happening, Wayward Bill (given name: William A. Chengelis) was watching — and capturing images of the terrifying incident.

It wasn't the only gunplay that took place in downtown Denver over the past 24 hours.

Investigators are reportedly looking for a man who fired off approximately ten rounds on the 16th Mall near Champa around 1:45 a.m. this morning — the latest example of violence on the mall epitomized by two stabbings in April.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the 16th Street Mall shooting.

But that wasn't the case a few hours earlier at 20th and Arapahoe.

The Denver Police Department sketched out the details in this series of tweets....

But these images aren't nearly as compelling as those shared by Wayward Bill, a frequent presence in our marijuana coverage over the years; he was mentioned most recently in a post about the Rigs4Us Colorado Cup on 4/20, at which he was supposed to serve as a judge. (As you'll recall, the Cup was shut down after being raided by police and other city officials.)

On Facebook, Wayward Bill wrote that he "woke up to bullhorn: 'Put the gun down.' Several times. Followed by a volley of eight shots. Guy on my 3rd floor down."

In the moments that followed, Wayward Bill managed to capture images of police deploying in the area in an effort to get an angle on the man, as well as ones actually firing — note the muzzle flash in the pic at the top of this post. He also grabbed photos of the subsequent emergency response.

Thus far, the shooter has not been identified by Denver authorities, nor have the officers who opened fire.
