As weed smokers across Colorado prepare for a long weekend of revelry and patriotism, here are some ideas for how to create new Fourth of July traditions to make your holiday an elevated experience.

Water

Indica users in particular will understand this: There’s nothing like diving into a pool or a lake and having your body’s sensors jump off the charts. Whether you just want to relax with a partner or are getting rowdy with your crew, get outside and find a nice place to enjoy a view by the water. Many of Colorado's waterways are on state and federal land, which means you should partoke at home and have a designated driver shuttle you around. Check out our list of the best places to swim in Colorado.

Food

Munchies are as much a part of marijuana culture as anything else. Get outside, fire up the grill, and cook some classic American BBQ. Your tastebuds will thank you for it.

Sales

Colorado stores go crazy with the holiday deals. If you plan on smoking this holiday, check your local pot shops for savings on your holiday hemp.

Beer

Making room for new traditions doesn’t have to crowd out the old. Beer undoubtedly is king across America as the drink of choice for Fourth of July, but who says Coloradans can’t augment the norm? For those seeking a stronger buzz and more robust flavors, combine a little ganja with some Colorado craft beer. Make sure you know your limits of mixing substances! Nobody wants to miss fireworks because they went too hard too early.

Patriotism

While Colorado and other legalized states may feel like they were the first Americans to enjoy marijuana, weed has quietly been present the whole time, as far back as America’s founding. George Washington was a cultivator of hemp crops, and Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Some of my finest hours have been spent sitting on my back veranda, smoking hemp and observing as far as my eye can see.” Let’s honor the founders and enjoy our freedom. Take in Colorado’s beautiful vistas while sitting in a lounge chair and listening to the musical Hamilton, with a pipe in hand.
