No 19: The Breakfast Sandwich at Stella's on 16th
Stella's on 16th is the new kid on the triangular block at 16th and Wewatta streets downtown, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to bustling urbanites. A big cup of coffee and a piping-hot breakfast sandwich is just the thing to slow down the pace of a weekday morning, but with so many choices, why head to an eatery that only offers one sandwich?
There are two difference-makers in Stella's stellar a.m. offering. The first is the bread: your choice of either a toasted brioche bun or a fresh croissant, both made in-house under the watchful eye of pastry chef MJ Szymanski. The second is the chef-made filling, more of an omelet on bread than the standard rubbery egg-and-cheese combo. Folded eggs are cooked to order and topped with caramelized onion and a healthy portion of molten cheese. Stella's isn't skimpy with the bacon, either, which it cooks to a satisfying crunch. The exclamation point is a dose of sriracha aioli that gives just the right spark to wake up your tastebuds.
If a breakfast sandwich is a little too grab-and-go for your tastes, Stella's also dishes up two kinds of eggs Benedict or a killer pastrami hash that will make you forget you were on your way to work. Just grab a pastry for your boss to make amends for showing up late.
