Many American pop fans weren’t very familiar with J Balvin until his infectious single “Mi Gente” blew up in clubs all over the world in 2017. But the Colombian-born Balvin has been a star of “second-wave” reggaetón for years, winning Latin Grammys and popping up on remixes and collaborations with Pitbull, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams and more. In 2018 he contributed to the song of summer, Cardi B’s “I Like It,” and continues his conquest of U.S. airwaves by touring for his new album, Vibras. This latest release finds Balvin, who still lives in his home town of Medellín, sticking to his Latin roots while riding the vibes of American hip-hop, dancehall and trap.
