Originally the solo project of frontman Dustin Payseur, Brooklyn indie-rock trio Beach Fossils remains one of the more memorable acts to have flourished during the glory days of Captured Tracks. Formed in 2009 and churned through the hype machine thanks to a well-received 2010 self-titled debut, Beach Fossils managed to trademark its moody sound early, adding atonal post-punk touches and echoing dream-pop guitar along the way. Follow-up records What a Pleasure and Clash the Truth are now emblematic of the early 2010s Brooklyn scene, whereas the excellent melodic guitar work throughout on 2017’s Somersault gestures toward something like staying power.
