Mercury Cafe announces the special edition of the (Best of) Short Film Series – Berlin. These are original short films from different countries. For the past five years, the Short Film Series - Berlin has presented progressive, leftist, radical, anti-racist, experimental and visionary films that address issues including, but not limited to, the environment, human rights, social injustice, anti-globalization, etc…in Berlin, Germany. The Short Film Series showcases every genre of independent film from across the world during this celebration of independent artists. Some off these films have received awards in prestigious international festivals and most of them have not been shown in the USA before. The (Best of) Short Film Series - Berlin will happen on October 16 with screenings at the Mercury Cafe; http://mercurycafe.com/. Film Schedule and Date: October 14, 2017: 19:00 hr The Man Who Fed His Shadow Greece 2012 18 min. Director: Mario Garefo A man intrudes into rich people’s dinners claiming that he can collect the food from their table and feed his shadow, which, curiously enough, is a female figure. Double Occupancy (Zweibettzimmer) Germany 2012 10 min. Director: Fabian Giessler Two old men share a hospital room, in which the window is the only connection to the outside world. The film is a dark parable about the greed of man - an animated, psychological intimate play about the power of imagination and illusion. The Missing Looks (La Mirada Perdida) Argentina 2012 11 min. Director: Damian Dionisio Argentina 1976. Claudio is forced to live with his family in hiding due to his political ideals. The house in which they live is discovered by the military. Without time to flee, Teresa tries to shelter her daughter in a fantasy world to keep the girl from the horror they are about to live. A Single Life The Netherlands 2014 02 min. Directors: Marieke Blaauw, Joris Oprins In this Oscar-nominated short, a mysterious vinyl record suddenly allows Pia to travel through time. Corp. Argentina 2016 9 min Director: Pablo Polledri Ambition, labor exploitation, environmental destruction, corruption and much more in the fantastic world of free market! One Word UK 2015 17 min Director: Caleb Shaffer Short film about a struggling young African Refugee adapting to life in the UK, who uses art to find his voice. The Present Germany 2014 4 min. Director: Jacob Frey Jake spends most of his time playing video games indoors until his mum decides to give him a present. (Mis) Matches ((Des) Encontros) Brazil 2014 26 min. Director: Rodrigo Bernardo Lara and Gael are perfect for each other. But they still haven’t met. How could destiny have put them so close to each other, so many times, and it hasn’t worked yet?
