In the future, all band names will just be slight variations on other musician’s names. Just ask Austin
shoegaze band Ringo Deathstarr. Or Bikini Trill, the Los Angeles-based trio that skews closer to No
Doubt than the justifiably-mad-as-hell Riot Grrrl punk of its semi-namesake. But, hey, with Lana Del
Rey releasing a Sublime cover way better than it has any right to be, it would seem the time is now for
funky, skanky, surfy ’90s-rock revivalism. Bikini Trill released debut EP Wassup, We Good? last year,
embracing island sleaze and slacker mentality; the buoyant “Smoke a Jay and Watch Yourself Dance”
sounds like a stoned summer afternoon in Venice Beach. There are worse ways to spend your
time.
