Gabriel Mervine Plays Clifford Brown

Clifford Brown, was one of the great jazz musicians of the 20th century. Noted for his lyricism, pure tone, and graceful technique and was one of the key figures in the emerging hard bop scene of the early 1950’s on the east coast. Although his life was tragically cut short by a car accident at the age of 25, Clifford’s legacy and recordings still have a heavy influence on musicians today, especially those who take up the trumpet. Gabriel Mervine pays musical homage to Clifford over two sets with Alejando Castaño on drums, Tom Amend on piano, Ken Walker on bass. Born in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Gabriel Mervine began his professional playing career at the age of thirteen years old. By the time he graduated high school he was already looking at making a career out of playing the trumpet. He then went to the Colorado University at Boulder for Jazz Studies, but after one year decided to dedicate his time to becoming a working trumpet player, which would include continuing his studies privately with people such as Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, and Greg Gisbert just to name a few.
