The Global Justice and Peace Award is offered to individuals and/or organizations for their contributions to social justice around the world.
This year, the Award will be given to the National Roundtable Against Metallic Mining (Mesa Nacional Frente a la Minería Metálica) for their outstanding achievement in the passage of a national bill that bans all forms of metal mining in El Salvador. Denver Justice and Peace Committee will be honoring the Roundtable´s role in defending the environment, health, safety, and integrity of rural communities and people everywhere.
DJPC applauds the resistance to the pressure of international corporations, and more importantly to persistence of the peoples of El Salvador to protect their Water, Livelihoods and Ecosystems. Si a la Vida! No a la Minería!
November 4 at 6 PM at the Highlands United Methodist Church (3131 Osceola St. Denver, 80212). [Organizer's description]
