Sally Centigrade presents a group show featuring all Denver based artist creating “gig” posters inspired by all Colorado based bands and musicians. In collaboration with Alicia “Bruce” Trujillo, the gallery selected twenty local artists and paired them with a Colorado band based on aesthetic and sound. Most of the pairings have never met before, and connections in the Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, and Ft. Collins areas. While the look of the show will be uniform in that all images will be the same size and promote the show (in lieu of an actual “gig,”), the show explores the many different styles and talents that the Denver art scene has to offer. . As such, the genres represented by the local bands is varied as well, with rock, hip-hop, funk and country all included, creating a truly diverse mix, something any great mixtape has - this one just happens to be local. Denver artists that may be recognizable include Kaitlin Ziesmer, Elena Thunderson and Kristen Easthope among others, with local favorites like Wheelchair Sports Camp, Colfax Speed Queen and The Velveteers as subjects. This opportunity also lent itself to dig deep into both scenes, finding up-and-coming artists (think Jeff Brown) and newer bands from across the Front Range just making their mark (Seal Eggs out of Colorado Springs). While the show already has an interesting hook to it, it really has become a great way to make connections between artists in their different mediums and bring the arts scene just a little more closer. The opening reception happens in the heart of July - in the midst of Festival Season - and will include refreshments, free parking and a solo set by Tammy Shine of Denver band, Dressy Bessy. The artists will be on hand, and in addition to the current show the gallery features prints from dozens of artists including Tara McPherson, Lora Zombie and Jasmine Becket-Griffith.
